The Tawang journey was an incredible adventure, and it felt like an achievement when I reached the elevation of 15000 feet in Bumla Pass.

I was all set for my trips to Meghalaya and Manali when Rohan sent me a DM on Instagram inviting me to join him on a trip to Tawang.

I had met Rohan previously during the Dzukou Valley trek.

Initially, I said no to him as I had already planned my Meghalaya trip. However, I thought a lot and decided to cancel the Meghalaya trip and join Rohan on the Tawang trip.

I took my nephew Raja along with me, and we got our Inner Line Permit to visit Arunachal Pradesh on April 26, 2023.

On April 28, 2023, Raja and I were already in Guwahati when Rohan arrived at the airport at 4 AM.

We met our driver uncle and started our journey at 7 AM after a 12-hour challenging drive through the foggy, cloudy road, and the risky curves of the Arunachal Pradesh hills, we reached Dirang and finally arrived at Hotel Buddha, where we spent the night.

During the drive, we witnessed the stunning Kameng River and a film shoot for an Assamese movie.

The next day (29 April 2023), we met our driver uncle again and headed towards Tawang.

On our way, we visited the coldest Sela Lake and the breathtaking Jang waterfall, also known as Nuranang Falls, which was an unforgettable experience.

We spent the next two nights at Hotel Dawa in Tawang.

On April 30, we rented an SUV to visit Madhuri Lake and Bumla Pass, located at the India-China border.

We learned about the Indo-China war from an Indian Army officer and saw two Chinese Army personnel at the border. We had an amazing time playing in the snow and were filled with pride for our Indian Army.

To visit Bumla Pass people need special permission from the Indian Army and only SUVs are allowed as the track is dangerous.

On the border, you can’t take photos or videos, but you can enjoy and take photos in the snow nearby.

On our way back from Bumla Pass, we were involved in an accident when our car collided with another vehicle.

Although our car wasn’t damaged, the other car’s front was badly damaged. Despite the mishap, both drivers remained humble and there was no conflict.

Later that day, we visited the Buddha statue, where we felt a unique sense of peace, and then we went to the Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in India.

We explored the monastery museum and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere.

After the visit, we walked around the beautiful area near the monastery. We just waited there for a while and took some pictures after enjoying the calmness of the area. It was getting dark so we went to our hotel.

On May 1, we started our journey back to Guwahati at 3 AM, as Rohan had to catch his flight at 7 PM. Although it was a long drive, we reached our destination safely and concluded our Arunachal Pradesh trip.

The journey was an incredible adventure, and it felt like an achievement when I reached the elevation of 15000 feet in Bumla Pass. I learned a lot from this trip about the geography and weather of Arunachal Pradesh and even about the Indian Army.

Although I don’t like short-term travel, It was a great adventure and I’ll remember the journey till my last breath.
